I was very fortunate to be given an appointment with Dr Sally Cubbin in Nov 2020. As it was during Lockdown our appointment was via online videocall. My path to finding I had ADHD was not quite via the normal route. I had been to see a Neurologist about the possibility of me having hereditary NF2. During our discussions she felt I had ADHD. I was offered a pro bono appointment with Dr Sally Cubbin. Upon our videocall chat, my nervousness dissipated, as Dr Cubbin asked me questions, chatted to me and gave me her assessment . This was based upon questionnaires I had answered, the evidence I had provided, statements from those who knew me best and most importantly her expertise in this field. In truth both her understanding, explanation, and expertise have made me feel not only grateful to her for this appointment. But I have come to think of her as somebody who has truly saved my life. I have a far better understanding of myself, I no longer feel that I am different. I love my ADHD quirkiness and I have come to love my ADHD. If you are ever considering whether to contact Dr Cubbin, from the bottom of my heart, I recommend you see her. I am 52 years of age, I have had 49 years of not knowing that I had ADHD. My only regret is that I wish I had known sooner. However Dr Cubbin has helped to Give me back my life and also to give me a correct diagnosis. Whilst I am aware that I have lost things in life as a result of having undiagnosed ADHD. I have come away with all the tools necessary, the support and Information I needed to take control of my life and I think I am a better person for this. So once again, I would highly recommend Dr Sally Cubbin and the ADHD Clinic.
It would be no exaggeration to say that Dr Cubbin saved my life. After struggling with ridiculous issues across all aspects of my life that went under the radar for far too long I was finally referred to Dr Cubbin and diagnosed with ADHD. I have no idea how it was possible to fit me in as I am aware the waiting times are unacceptable at the moment, but yet Dr Cubbin was able to spare the time and give the most compassionate and thorough evaluation. I was incredibly anxious during this call and yet Dr Cubbin was able to help me relax. This lead to treatment that has been so profound and lifechanging I am still in disbelief.
This happened roughly around the time the abhorrent "Private ADHD Clinics Exposed" BBC Panorama documentary came out, so after figuring out the root of my problems it was disheartening to hear that many people believe ADHD to be a "fake condition" or diagnosis and further increasing the unjust stigma the condition faces. Admittedly the documentary did show that some private clinics are acting in an inappropriate way, but they failed to recognise that: this is a minority of clinics, ADHD is severely underdiagnosed in the UK, the life destroying harm it may cause, the different types of presentations and misunderstanding that has led to people like myself being allowed to suffer in silence and all kinds of other issues. I would urge anyone of the opinion that the documentary presented to please read the responses from various ADHD specialists in the UK which are are easily found on Google. I don't use TikTok but I am aware there is some kind of trend happening on there. I would recommend you look at the extended criteria and consider whether you have the symptoms and speak to a professional because unfortunately there is a lot of misinformation from unqualified people on social media. That said, it is good if exposure and understanding of the condition increases.
It turns out that the stereotypical definition of ADHD only accounts for one side of the coin. It is now known that it can manifest in various ways, for example that hyperactivity can potentially manifest as quiet, restless and highly anxious behaviour. If you are suffering and you suspect you might have this condition I would urge you to PLEASE seek help and book an appointment with Dr Cubbin. Nobody deserves to suffer in silence with this condition.
Dr Cubbin is an absolute credit to the NHS - her and her amazing admin team are the most together group of medical professionals I have ever dealt with, which makes an enormous difference to no doubt all her patients, as people with ADHD often find navigating the bureaucracies of the NHS an absolute nightmare!
I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of about 7, and I am now 26. I have seen a rotating cast of doctors who have varied immensely in quality of care etc. When I left the children's mental health service, I was worried about the quality of care I might end up with in the chronically troubled adult mental health service, and Dr Cubbin was recommended to me by my psychiatrist. I looked into private treatment and then as luck would have it was placed under Dr Cubbin's care on the NHS! After an initial in-person consultation, Covid struck, and I transitioned to Zoom care, which is really convenient for me.
Dr Cubbin has always been available to talk about my treatment regimen, and is always happy to take the time to suggest tweaks to the medication regimen to allow me to flourish despite my condition. I would not have made it through university, or this far in my career without her support. She clearly cares about the quality of care she is providing, and goes to great lengths to ensure her patients are well looked after.
Dr Sally Cubbin is a outstanding Dr.Has a deep understanding of ADHD,and truly cares about her patients and is always there to help with any problems that arise.Very professional in her care of her patients.I would like to take this moment to give a deep thanks to Dr Sally Cubbin for the care i received with my ADHD. Paul.
I was referred to Dr. Cubbins last year for an ADHD assessment and diagnosis. I would 100% recommend her to anyone seeking an ADHD diagnosis. During our conversations she made me feel relaxed and calm. She asked insightful questions and showed empathy while remaining objective in her assessment. The advice she gave was very helpful and honest without being critical. The communication from her office has been very responsive, and Dr. Cubbins has been so helpful in navigating the process of finding the right medication.
