After 6 years here’s my experience: It’s probably time to shut up shop and call in the private sector. The incentives seem to be based around delivering a worse service than the year before. Impossible to get an appointment unless you are unemployed, retired and/or have unlimited time to wait on the phone and keep up with most complex and unhelpful booking scheme ever. Millions (presumably) on a new surgery few years ago and I have never been able get an appointment since. I have to pay for private GP each time. I sometimes imagine the team meeting where this GP team is pleased the new booking system is working as they have fewer patients and are providing a worse service. Recently went and asked for a flu vaccine and reception happily informed me they had opted out of providing such low brow services — outsourced to some halfway house up the road, no money in it presumably. The only thing this place does is send me endless text messages that I can’t stop — misleading and wrongly advising me about covid vaccines. Presumably these are profitable. In the nicest possible way, I suggest you get back to medicine and call in someone who wants to work in the service industry.

Brilliant service from The Wall House this week. After an odd episode on Monday in Redhill I contacted the surgery and was seen by Dr Hildreth. She was so calm and caring and easy to talk to and I felt totally at ease with her. She did numerous tests and I didn’t feel rushed at all. She is a great addition to The Wall House Surgery. The phone you back service, telling where you are in the queue and the chance to send an email greatly improves the accessibility to medical treatment. I think we are all much relieved to not have to listen to endless messages about COVID and vaccinations before getting through. Perhaps it would help to single out easily dealt with queries by phone option? 1 to request blood test, 2 to see a nurse, 3 Covid & vaccination queries 4 prescription requests etc.

I am fine now, but a couple of years ago sort help for mental health and ended up in a cul de sac of no help. I'm concerned that people with serious issues could find themselves in the same situation.

Terrible waiting times just to speak to someone. Been going on for many many months so Covid is not an excuse, just pay for an extra member of staff to answer the phone.

1, Unable to book non-urgent appointments in advance. 2. If you miss 8 am phone slot it is impossible to book an appointment. 3. Rarely see our own GP.

Suggested improvements
Re-establish the relationship between us and our family GP. Have slots available for non-urgent appointments, and allow receptionists to book these at any time.
